The City of Sydney is in the final stages of some exciting new ideas for the performing arts sector. These ideas are now on exhibition under the new "Late Night Trading Planning Controls"... but the deadline for comments is fast approaching (8 February) and we need your responses.
So we are seeking feedback that specifically responds to how the changes will affect various sectors. There is a lot to digest - so let's just focus on the new ideas surrounding performance venues and performance in non-traditional spaces.
ITEM 5: Encourage performance, culture and unlicensed businesses.
The new ideas include:
a. Allow unlicensed shops and business, such as bookshops, clothing stores, drycleaners and hairdressers to trade up to 24 hours in city living or late night management areas and up to 2am in local centres.
b. Describe dedicated performance venues, such as theatres, concert halls and cinemas with up to 250 patrons, as lower risk premises and allow these venues an additional trading hour at closing time (from 11pm to midnight - to encourage late-night programming post main-stage show???).
c. Allow venues that host performance one additional trading hour at closing time on the night of the performance (encouraging non-traditional venues to program performance ie: more gigs for you!!!).
Follow the link below... read the ideas... and think about the impact to you and your creative practice. It's important that these ideas get responses - so they can become a considered reality for Sydney.
We are proposing changes to the planning controls for late-night trading in Sydney. These include new and extended trading areas, changes to hours and encouraging more diverse trading.
