Back in 2014, Anna Dakin had an exhibition at the Brand X L3 Central gallery space. That exhibition was showing the work she made during her time in Central Australia that same year. The experience behind that body of work led her to The Royal College of Art in London where she completed an MA in Information Experience Design.

That long-distance hike that inspired her to make that work and develop as an artist is something that she is now able to share with other artists leading a week-long hike with World Expeditions on the Larapinta Trail in 2020.

Take a hike, artists! (…With The Artist Expedition Society)

The Artist Expedition Society (AES) is a tour company and artist collective born from a desire to share experiences with nature and the outdoors. They have teamed up with World Expeditions to provide the hiking trip of a lifetime for 8 outdoorsy artists on the Larapinta Trail in Australia in winter 2020.

The trip will cover 60 kilometers of Central Australia’s finest landscapes, including a challenging 1380-meter night climb for sunrise on Mt Sonder (Rrewtyepme).

The group will spend 7 nights sleeping in swags under some of the best night skies in the world, spend time making art on the trial, and finish with a pop-up exhibition in Alice Springs.

This is the first public hike the AES has offered following its conception by Anna Dakin at The Royal College of Art in 2017, where the British artist studied radical approaches to art communication on the Information Experience Design MA.

World Expeditions will provide a fully supported trip; with world-class wilderness first aid trained guides, and top quality food, equipment, and local knowledge. All that you’ll need to carry when hiking is a daypack with drinking water, snacks, and art materials.

“The landscapes of Central Australia are ancient and powerful and the rhythmic movement of walking opens up space to think. The way that plants and animals have adapted to survive and thrive in this landscape is wild! This trip will provide fertile ground for new creative ideas.”

- Anna Dakin
