Craig Calhoun, a performer, recording artist, and educator with extensive experience, will lead a session on the concept of "Creative Common Sense." Spread over two days, this masterclass will explore the practical application of sound in live performance entertainment and studio production, providing valuable insights and techniques to improve results in both settings.

Learning outcomes:

1. Understand sound and auditory perception, including factors that influence our perception and experience of sound.

2. Explore often overlooked techniques that enhance audience engagement and connection in live music performance.

3. Develop critical listening skills to identify and appreciate sound nuances in live and studio environments.

This session is suitable for musicians, singer-songwriters, performers, audio engineers, producers, and anyone in the music industry looking to enhance their understanding and skills in live performance and studio production. No specific experience is required, but familiarity with terminology and live performance would be helpful.

Craig’s Funk Band The Brothers of Oz will perform as part of this workshop on Saturday! Allowing you to witness his concepts, approach and philosophy in action.

By the end of this session, participants will have a deeper understanding of the principles and techniques for successful live performances and studio recordings, leading to improved results and enhanced audience experience.

Please Note: This Masterclass Session requires you to attend both days and a live performance by The Brothers of Oz will occur on Saturday.

About the Artist:

Craig "CC" Calhoun is a well-known funk bassist, composer, producer, and educator. He has experienced various cultures throughout his musical journey, from San Francisco to historic Berlin and sunny Sydney. Although born in America, he grew up in Germany due to his father's military service.

A dream of performing and captivating the crowd at an outdoor festival ignited a strong desire to make this dream a reality. Craig discovered his true passion upon witnessing someone playing SLAP bass.

Craig's original music falls under his own genre, "EuroFunk". It is a unique fusion of his early Afro American roots in Blues and Soul, combined with his exploration of Funk, Rock, and Improvised Groove.

At the young age of 19, his band secured a six-figure production deal. This deal provided each member with a weekly payment of $300 to create original music full-time. This opportunity allowed Craig to develop the studio production skills he currently utilises in producing for Artists, composing for documentaries, games, animation, and releasing his own music.

He has had the privilege of opening concerts for iconic artists such as Santana, and more.
