Josh Freedman

An evening of movement and laughter, celebrating the brilliance of all butts and combating the alienation of our bodies. Come for the camp grooves and funky moves, stay for the chance to get your own backside onto the dance floor.

JOSH FREEDMAN is a dancer, creator, and movement educator, based in Sydney. Josh gained his BA from Rambert School (London), during which he danced with Arielle Smith, Thick&Tight, Yorke Dance Project, Antler Theatre, and London Fashion Week. Since returning to Australia in 2021, Josh has continued to work as a freelance dancer, with choreographers such as Xanthe Geeves, Dean Walsh, Sophia Ndaba, and Sue Healey.
Josh’s choreographic practice is informed by his passion for queer-centric, interdisciplinary approaches to movement. Josh collaborates frequently with musicians and visual artists, such as Andrew Batt-Rawden, Nicholas Vines, Rob Hao, Jasper Fearnley, and Isabelle Hayman, and often draws on his drag alter-ego ‘Jiggy’ during creation and performance. His work aims to challenge the seriousness of contemporary dance, blending comedic and participatory approaches with rigorous physicality and exploration. Josh's choreography has been performed at Central st. Martins, The Anya Linden Theatre, The Seymour Centre, NIDA, 107 Projects, Carriageworks, Vivid, and as part of March Dance.
Josh also works as a dance teacher, for Alegria Studios, Wenona School, DanceWorks, Byron Ballet, Canberra Dance Theatre, and Austinmer Dance Theatre, among others. He believes that grooving to great music is one of the most fun things you can do, and that everyone should give it a go. Josh is eager to use his teaching skills to help people find more joy in their bodies, and increase community involvement in dance.
