Enthralling realms of our neurologies displayed in reclamations of softness.

Spoons cultivates coalescent sensorial equities with tactile and tangible realms of observation and participation. The realms of our captivating and enthralling neurologies and identities displayed in reclamations of softness. Where hearts are returned to our bodies and our exigencies are melded with our surroundings. A soft space to wander, to wonder, to listen, or lay, or play, stimming and settling and surrendering.

Spoons is a multi-sensorial immersive performance, endeavouring to layer sensations that curate equitable access to engagement. Spoons will provide a soundscape, movement, tactile objects and installations, and space to walk, sit, stim, witness, touch, converse, have described, listen, leave, or return.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

SASKIA ELLIS (they/them) is a queer, neurodivergent, multidisciplinary artist. They are currently based on Gadigal, Dharug, and Dharawal Land. Saskia’s practice presently inquires of illimitable orthogonality and curvilinear time in tangible and physiological encapsulations. Reclamations of softness, curvilinear time, and the endeavours to redefine, repurpose, and relocate homes for our bodies and nonlinear anthologies.

Saskia prefaces a multidisciplinary approach to accessibility and intersectionality, through inquisitive language, movement, improvisation, installation, and theoretical embodiment. Curating ever expansive, equitable and inclusive understandings of each and otherness.

Through SpIn centred approaches to deconstructing our hierarchies of process, Saskia endeavours to constellate realms of multi-sensorial immersions. (returning to) worlds where we may reclaim escapism for the realms in which we are to innately reside in humanness.

Saskia graduated Sydney Dance Company’s PPY in 2021. Their work rests in movement, performance, language, film, and tangibilities. They’ve scattered their works, contributions, and collaborations amongst Museum of Contemporary Art, Carriageworks, Riverside Theatres, Catapult Dance, March Dance, MerrigongX, The Flying Nun by BrandX, Sydney World Pride, and FIDCMX (Mexico City).

JENNY TRINH (she/her) is a Western Sydney artist and Wytchings is her project. Growing up, Jenny would often be found in the art room, headphones on and doodling until the blank pages of her sketchbook were filled up. Those times with her head in the clouds always brought her comfort – she has always been enamoured by the teleportive nature of music.

In 2018, she participated in New Age Noise (formerly known as All Girl Electronic) where she explored electronic music production properly for the first time, creating dreamy, film-inspired sounds evoking that of space and water. She has also performed at a variety of shows from debuting at 2019’s ‘Club 4A’ to 2022’s ‘Essential Tremors’ curated by Liars’ Angus Andrew. Furthermore, she has collaborated with a number of other wordly artists like Red Rey, Saskia Ellis & Jada Narkle to create accompanying soundscapes for their movement pieces, which have been showcased during programs including Soft Centre, Sydney World Pride, Yirramboi Festival and Marrugeku.

Her debut EP ‘Neptune’ was released in 2019 and her second EP, 'Oculus’ was released in winter 2020 via Lazy Thinking Records. The final chapter of her 'Neptune’ trilogy – 'Psamathe’ was released in spring 2022, and it features the single “Fata Morgana” which was nominated for 'Song of the Year’ at the FBi SMACs Awards 2022.
