Unpicking the Seams of Their Disguise: An artist insight with Julie Montgarrett Join contemporary textile artist Dr. Julie Montgarrett for a discussion around her socially-engaged creative practice; combining fabric, embroidery and community to unpick the historical threads of Australian grand narratives. From intricate, site-responsive installations to reimagining the historic weight and conceptual fragility of archival documents, Julie will survey her current and past works. As Scene Shift 2023 Regional Artist-in-Residence, Julie will reflect upon her most recent research of rare manuscripts to form an immersive ‘forest’ that questions the fraught fictions and fragile facts of Australia's past and present. Scene Shift Residency Program is a partnership with Cad Factory and Brand X About the Artist: Dr. Julie Montgarrett is a textile artist, curator and once upon a time academic who has been exhibiting since the late 1970s.
