THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY CLOSED AND WILL RE-OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS TO SEASON #6 IN MARCH 2020

The Flying Nun program showcases outcomes from our performing arts residencies at the East Sydney Community and Arts Centre in Darlinghurst (ESCAC). It is a space where artists can develop and test new contemporary performance work.

Nurturing new performance concepts that the more conventional spaces are hesitant to run.

What are we looking for?

Brand X are keen to hear from professional and emerging artists working in dance, theatre, live music, performance art, comedy, film and contemporary culture. We want to showcase new, avant-garde ideas that provoke and push creative boundaries. We are here to nurture concepts that the more conventional performance spaces are hesitant to run… so don’t be afraid to think completely unconventionally… the weirder and wilder – the better.

Our program takes place on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the year from 8pm for a standard ticket price of $25. We are interested in one-off ideas, on-going monthly events or two-night seasons. No idea is too out-there or too fresh to be considered. We welcome new works, new ideas and new approaches to public engagement.

What's in it for you?

We support artists and their new works with a 95% box office return for The Flying Nun performances at ESCAC and a financial contribution towards your production (see below). Our staff are here to help you realise your ideas with access to our production equipment and marketing support. We can also offer free development time in one of our rehearsal spaces in Sydney if required.

Successful applicants receive the following financial support:

  • $400 materials/construction stipend
  • $400 tech/operator support stipend
  • $500 artist fee stipend per project

ESCAC has professional lighting rig, sound, AV and modular staging system. Capacity is between 70-150 pax with a separate foyer, bar and box office.
