RUNNING TIME: 1:15:39

In this A2A Training session, Bart will introduce pathways to self-train in basic SketchUp (using the large range of online tutorials available) and run through more specific ways in which artists and designers can use the software in developing and planning their site-specific work. This session is designed for artists and designers who want to build their SketchUp skills or for anyone who is looking to gain an insight into what the software can do for your practice.

SketchUp is a free 3D software tool used widely in the Arts for designing and planning.

Bart will demonstrate how he uses SketchUp in his practice as a concept development tool that can complement 2D sketches and 3D physical models, and how the 3D virtual models can be used to elegantly communicate with clients, directors, curators, builders, and collaborators working remotely.

This A2A session is designed for:

  • Artists - particularly useful for site-specific work and installation artists.
  • Theatre makers and designers planning staging and sets for any performance location.
  • Art installers and event designers.
ABOUT THE ARTIST

Following tertiary studies in Industrial Design and Fine Arts in the ’80s, Bart’s career moved through theatre and film. In 1990 he launched Objet B’art to design and build bespoke objects and environments.

Self-trained in Sketchup, Bart uses the software on almost all his projects. He works from his small well-equipped workshop and design studio near Gundagai on projects based in Sydney and beyond with a varied client base covering corporate events (pre-COVID), art directing for the small screen, design, and installation of retail display, and stage design.

Recent projects include; set design for Taikoz for a multi-cam recording of online teaching content filmed at Monkey Baa Theatre; design of a sauna and plunge pool building for a private bush retreat; an SFX submersible model film set for an Australian low budget feature film; a speculative concept design for a dance/music performance at Dangrove, Sydney.

His client list also includes Westpac, Cartier, Xstrata, Omega, Louis Vuitton, The Actuaries Institute, SBS, Destination NSW, Cirque Du Soleil, and Audi.
