THE LIFE CYCLE OF BLANCO (on-demand)

A solo work incorporating AV and call-and-response dynamics mixed in with a riotous monologue about the culminating impact of casual racism. Blanco – a struggling Asian actor – reviews the short ‘life cycle’ of his career with documentarian flair, unpacking the emotional labour and exhaustion of being a POC artist in Australia.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Vonne Patiag is a multi-disciplinary theatre and filmmaker based in Western Sydney. He is interested in producing personal stories that explore queer/ethnic intersection and that dissect issues of racism and geographical prejudice prevalent to Australia - localised stories with global appeal. His first full-length play 'Obviously!' premiered in September 2018 at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, commissioned by Q Theatre for their inaugural Q INDIE season. He was also selected for the Sydney Theatre Company CAAP Directors Workshop and the Stephen Cummins Queer Performance Development Program through Performance Space, where he debuted his first solo performance 'Karaokie' at Queer Nu Werk 2018 (PACT), Day 4 Night during Liveworks 2018 (Performance Space) and was curated in Desire Lines 2018. Recent stage credits include 'Hypangogism' (Balter Theatre Co.), 'Obviously!' (Braver Stage) and 'Love & Information' (Victorian College of Arts), which he also Assistant Directed. He is a proud alumni of Victorian College of Arts (Acting Studio) and University of Technology Sydney (Film Production).
