Brand X and the Cad Factory want to give a big congratulations to Nick Wishart and Julie Montgarrett for receiving the 2023 Scene Shift Residencies!

Many deserving artists applied for the residency and it was a difficult decision for the panel. With that said, it fills us with hope that so many inspiring artists are pushing creative practice in remarkable ways.

While Nick is at the Cad Factory he will be exploring interactive light installations that require the darkness of a rural location and the changing environmental conditions to activate. During the last week of his residency there will be a public outcome for the community to enjoy the wonder of his work.

Nick said, “I am thrilled to bits to receive the Scene Shift Residency! Very excited to be making some art under a big sky!”

While at Brand X, Julie will be researching for a new exhibition she is presenting at Griffith Regional Art Gallery in 2025. She will study bees, wasps, flies and moths from the Australian Museum rare books and entomology collections. She will also study the lace and textile collections from the Powerhouse Museum.

Julie said, “I am stunned to receive the residency! I’m looking forward to roaming various collections and studying the essential pollinators that sustain both rural and urban ecologies.”
